Teaching Neurodivergent Children at Home (TNCH)
Teaching Neurodivergent Children at Home (TNCH) is a neurodiversity-affirming and strength-based program that helps caregivers turn curriculum expectations into calm, practical, and child-centred learning at home. The learning series is built around one central purpose: helping caregivers keep learning connected to the curriculum while adapting the activity, materials, pace, environment, response options, and support level to the child’s needs.
The course begins with foundational teaching skills, introduces caregivers to curriculum language examples, and shows how to plan, adapt, teach, and assess curriculum-connected activities in everyday home-learning routines. It is designed to help caregivers feel more confident, organized, and responsive while supporting neurodivergent children in ways that respect how they learn best.
Through practical examples, planning templates, and toolkit handouts, participants learn how to build home lessons that are purposeful, flexible, and connected to the child’s learning needs.
Unit 1
Foundations for Curriculum-Connected Teaching is designed to help caregivers build the basic understanding needed before planning curriculum-connected learning at home. It focuses on understanding the child as a learner, creating supportive learning conditions, using simple teaching routines, and collecting early evidence of learning.
Unit 2
Curriculum Language and Pan-Canadian Context introduces caregivers to the different curriculum terms, home education language, and support wording used across Canada. It helps caregivers understand how expectations, outcomes, competencies, and learning standards can be translated into practical home-learning goals.
Unit 3
Curriculum-Connected Teaching in Practice brings together the practical skills caregivers need to turn curriculum requirements into accessible home-learning activities. Across six modules, caregivers learn how to interpret curriculum goals, break learning into manageable steps, adapt tasks without losing the goal, plan structured home-learning activities, and assess whether learning has taken place.
By completing this learning series, caregivers strengthen their ability to support neurodivergent children through responsive, structured and practical teaching approaches at home. The series develops an understanding of the child as a learner, readiness for learning, regulation, curriculum-connected goals, adaptation, instructional support and evidence of progress. Whether caregivers are beginning to explore home learning or refining an established approach, each module supports greater confidence, thoughtful decision-making and flexibility in everyday teaching.
Upon completion, participants receive a Record of Completion acknowledging their engagement in learning related to supporting neurodivergent children at home.
Upon request, CCATT will provide:
- a Completion Record showing the participant’s completion status and grade; and
- a Certificate of Completion titled Teaching Neurodivergent Children at Home.
